Two 14 year olds arrested for stealing a car

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford police have arrested two 14-year-old boys for stealing a car over the weekend.

According to police, officers with the Rockford Police Department's Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) team attempted to stop the stolen vehicle in the 1200 block of Jackson Street at 12:30 a.m. when the teen driver got out and ran. He was apprehended shortly thereafter, police said.

He was charged with Felony Theft, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Resisting Arrest, and then booked into the Juvenile Detention facility.

The other teen was taken into custody without incident, and charged with Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle, and was later released to his parent or guardian.
