Video shows man trying to kidnap child walking with father, NYPD says

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn ( WPIX ) — A man is facing charges after an apparent attempted child abduction was caught on video in Brooklyn, New York Police said.

In footage of the incident shared by Crown Heights Shomrim Patrol, seen in the video player at the top of this story, a father can be seen walking with two children, a boy and a girl.

A masked man can then be seen walking by them and appears to try picking up the boy, but his father does not let go. After the man drops the boy, the video appears to show the men exchanging words before going their separate ways.

The child was reportedly uninjured in the incident, which happened Saturday afternoon in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Stephan Stowe, and charged him with kidnapping in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, and harassment.

Police say Stowe has been arrested over 30 times. No additional details were immediately available.
