iola M. Yachim, 75, of Midtown Trailer Park, Larksville, formerly of Mount
Airy, Pocono, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born April 26, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary
(Leketesky) Shaffern. She worked for the East Stroudsburg University
housekeeping department. She was a member of St. Stephen’s-St. Mary’s Nativity
Church Community, Plymouth, and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Larksville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; brothers, Olgert, Victor
and William Sikorski, Steven Szafranovicz and Peter Shaffern; and sisters,
Mildred Antonelli, Lena Phillips and Eva Coslett.
Surviving are her sisters, Leona Fenimore, New Jersey; and Martha De Fiore,
Long Island, N.Y.; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral
Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at
St. Stephen’s Church, Plymouth. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Byzantine
Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A prayer service
will be conducted Sunday at the funeral home.
