Walk to support finding cure for ALS coming to University of South Alabama this weekend
MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — An event aimed at finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS, is set to happen in South Alabama this weekend.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at the University of South Alabama's Intramural Field, according to the event website.
EVENT SCHEDULE & LOCATION:
Walk check-in is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
The walk is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m.
Event organizers say the upcoming, 1-mile walk is a fundraiser for people to march for a treatment and a cure for the progressive neurodegenerative disease .
"Your participation in the Walk to Defeat ALS has a direct impact on people living with ALS and their families at the local level," the signup page for the walk said. "Through education, support groups, access to care, and advocacy, we are working to defeat ALS and provide hope to people living with ALS and their families."
The fundraising walk has raised $19,214 so far and has a goal of raising $50,000.
