Walter J. Ziomek, a resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton,
and formerly of Cliff Street, Pittston, died Monday at the Community Medical
Center, Scranton. Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary
Ziomek. He attended Plymouth schools. Before his retirement, he was employed
by the former Leigh Valley Railroad working out of the Coxton Yards, Duryea.
He was a resident of Scranton for the past 10 months. He lived in Pittston
most of his life. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston,
and its Holy Name Society. He and his wife, the former Mary Mancos, celebrated
their 61st wedding anniversary on May 17. He was preceded in death by
brothers, Frank, Joseph, John, and Andrew; and sisters Sophie, Anna, and Mary.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son Bernard, Jermyn; two
granddaughters; three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home
Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of the Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
in St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston. Interment will be in the parish
cemetery, Exeter.
