COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A Saturday afternoon of football was interrupted when gunfire broke out in a fight killing one man.

The investigation is still going on, but after some review, Atlas Schools CEO Brittney Stroh says they can confirm no students or staff of the school were involved in the shooting.

They tell 11 News their field was being used by the Pop Warner Youth Football Group, who also told 11 News they were not involved in the shooting, either. Parents say this was a horrifying experience for them and their kids.

"I'm going to have to move forward and figure it out. I think I'm going to start with some counseling, for sure, for these guys," Jennifer, who witnessed the shooting said.

A day later, the school released a statement saying in part:

"The Colorado Springs Police Department has completed their activities near our schools and confirmed that our Atlas campuses are secure. We are ready to return to a normal school day tomorrow, Monday, October 7."

But some parents who saw things happen say this has them on edge.

"They're getting threats of shootings in their school, and they can't even go play youth football safely," Jennifer said. "You know, there's a problem we need to fix this."

The school did tell 11 News that their staff is all trained to help students with crisis response and added t hey have fourteen mental health professionals on hand to help both students and faculty.

"You know, this is something they're never going to forget ever," Jennifer said. "This is not the message we need to be sending to our children, period."

This is an ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to call.
