VIDALIA, Ga. (WSAV) – Vidalia Mayor Doug Roper released a statement on social media Thursday night after a serious rain event hit the city.

"I'm really at a loss for words of how to start this or what to even say," the statement began.

Roper said the city saw widespread flooding, road collapses, downed trees and boat rescues in neighborhoods.

This comes as Vidalia deals with the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

Roper also shared a message from City Manager Josh Beck:

"Everyone is evacuated that needed to be. Everyone is accounted for. No fatalities, no missing persons."

"Praise God for this message as it could have very easily been a different narrative," Roper added.
