We tried Texas' best tacos in Austin. Here's what we thought

Believe it or not, Texas' best tacos are in Austin . So, naturally MySA had to take a trip up I-35 to try them.

Cuantos Tacos recently took the top spot in the Lone Star State for tacos, according to Yelp's newly released taco guide. We tried the critically-acclaimed food truck to see if it lived up to the hype, and it's safe to say it did not disappoint.

Nestled in the unassuming East Austin Arbor Food Park sits a bright yellow food truck with a constant line of people. Its small but mighty menu is filled with all of your taco desires.

Cuantos serves a variety of Mexico City-style street tacos and quesadillas from a confit brisket (Suadero) to barbacoa (Cachete), pork (Carnitas) and Mexican chorizo (Longaniza). There's even a champiñones (mushrooms) option for vegetarians.

The food truck uses 100% Nixtamal tortillas from San Antonio's Colonial Tortilla Factory to achieve "that unique taste you can only find in Mexico," Cuantos owner, Luis "Beto" Robledo said on Yelp. It only makes sense a piece of the 210 is part of the best tacos in the 512.

Each two-bite taco is served with cilantro, onions, limes and your choice of a green (mild) or orange colored (spicier) salsa. We ordered four of Cuantos' best-selling tacos - Suadero, Cachete, Carnitas and Longaniza - and couldn't get enough. The best part, besides eating them, was how surprisingly cheap they were at $2.75 a pop.

The brisket in the Suadero was juicy and tender, while the Cachete's barbacoa had the perfect fat to meat ratio of softness. Our favorites were the Carnitas and Longaniza which were packed with flavor and tasted very authentic to our abuelitas.

Founded in 2020, the food truck has 4.7 stars on Yelp and it's not for nothing - Cuantos definitely lives up to the hype. Cuantos Tacos is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.
