Events are set to take place for people in Jersey to learn more about the island's elected government - the States Assembly.

The States said it wanted to inform and engage islanders with a week of events to mark Democracy Week starting on Monday.

The public will be able to take part in a people's debate in the States Chamber as well as visit different pop-up stands to share their views with members on topics such as the proposed budget.

Carina Alves, chairwoman of the political awareness and education sub-committee, said with two years until the next election, she is "particularly pleased" to offer islanders an insight.

The stands will be available from Monday until Friday from 12:00 until 14:00 BST at different locations.

People can also sign up to a free tour of the chamber or join a democracy-themed guided walk around St. Helier.

States members will also visit several of the island's primary and secondary schools and colleges during the week to give assemblies and workshops.

Ms Alves said: "We are really excited to have such a broad programme of events and activities to engage islanders at every age and stage of political engagement."
