“We’re Not Very Smart Anyway”: Clint Bowyer Claims He ‘Completely Blew’ His Nashville Record After a Painful Return to NASCAR

Clint Bowyer , fresh out of his role in the FOX booth, once again found himself in a familiar setting, taking the wheels behind the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Truck at Nashville Superspeedway. This was Bowyer's first NASCAR race after calling it quits from the Cup Series back in 2020. However, his comeback story was far from a dream return, as he finished 17th during the race.

To rub salt in the wounds, his dear friend Kevin Harvick invited him on his show to ask him about his NASCAR return. Bowyer, in response, took a dig at Harvick's dire run at Five Flags Speedway but accepted that his Truck Series race was a total failure.

Clint Bowyer just wasn't able to keep up with the new wave of NASCAR drivers After the stage one run, Bowyer had a big fumble on the pit road, which proved to be costly and ruined his race. Despite a good pit stop, he just stalled his ride trying to take off, and gave up multiple spots. Not only that, he also ended up being wrecked, banging into Chase Purdy and damaging his front end. His truck had to be held with tape in order to finish the race, which ended in 17th place. Not an ideal return to NASCAR racing for the veteran driver.

When asked about his experience from the race, Bowyer reminded everyone that this was his full-time job a few years ago. And that it wasn't out of the ordinary that he returned to his roots of competitive racing. "Well, it just goes to show you that, again, you've heard me say this before when people ask about our jobs and the way we act. I said you do realize we had to wear a helmet to make a living, right? ... Sowe're not very smart anyway, and that being said, we didn't set ourselves up for a good opportunity a podcast given the weekend we both had," Bowyer said on the Happy Hour .

But he didn't shy away from accepting that he had a torrid time running in the Rackley Roofing 200 race at the Nashville Superspeedway. "I blew it, bud that's what I did, completely blew it. I tell you how bad it was, I got home, we were on our way home yesterday, and cash goes way to go, dad you had a pretty good record at Nashville Superspeedway, you just blew that." His son was pointing at his decent record of finishing inside the top 5 in his previous starts at the racetrack.

This wasn't a casual race; the event held sentimental value for Clint Bowyer. And, despite the disappointing result, he is expected to be back racing.

Bowyer had his friends in attendance to watch him race for the first time Nashville has been a special place for the former Cup Series driver. Apart from his streak of good results in the Xfinity Series races, all of his close friends reside in Nashville. Interestingly, his friends weren't the gearheads like Bowyer was himself. So it was indeed a special occasion for him to try and put on a show for his buddies, but he just couldn't produce the goods this time around.

"All my friends live in Nashville, and by the way, I didn't meet them through racing. I met them through friends and friendships and music, and stuff like that. So they had never watched me race; they'd never seen me compete before. So they were all there, and they asked me, like it was cool to watch, but damn man, now what do we do? I was like, I can't go out like that; I can promise you that. I just can't suck that bad," he added.

Perhaps he should follow in the footsteps of Harvick and maybe compete in the Late Model races. Away from the pressure and the limelight, this is where Bowyer could truly enjoy his return to racing.
