Why developer says the Red Lion Hotel renovation project in High Point couldn’t advance

The Red Lion is dead. And the killer? High interest rates.

That's according to Simon Burgess, who confirmed to TBJ that Mayfair Hospitality Group was no longer involved in a project to redevelop the former Red Lion Hotel in High Point .

The Winston-Salem hospitality developer announced in spring 2022 its intent to renovate the vacant 252-room hotel into 131 luxury hotel rooms and 65 apartment homes in a $17 million project .

Two U.S.-based airlines were struck by gunfire Monday while flying in Haiti's airspace. One plane, a Spirit Airlines flight, was hit by bullets while attempting to land in Port-au-Prince. The second, New York-bound JetBlue Airways Flight 935, was hit after take off. JetBlue discovered it has been shot at only made after the crew arrived safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Before taking off, a plane passenger spotted a mechanic working on the wing. Taylor Hilton says it happened on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to John Wayne Airport in California. Hilton says a flight attendant was also concerned and showed the video to the pilot. She says the pilot came on the intercom and informed everyone that some screws were loose and the dismantled part is for aerodynamic purposes and not required to fly safely.

A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was hit by gunfire while trying to land in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, on Monday and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the Federal Aviation Administration said. CBS News Miami's Tania Francois reports the FAA is prohibiting all flights to Haiti after three jets were struck by gunfire Monday, including an American Airlines flight leaving Port-au-Prince bound for Miami International Airport that was announced Tuesday by the airline. The others were a Spirit flight from Fort Lauderdale and a JetBlue headed to JFK.
