A cloudy start to the week this morning brought warmer temperatures than normal for the Wyoming Valley.

The National Weather Service reported that it was 35 degrees at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport as of 7:54 a.m. It was a darker commute for those heading to work and school thanks to clocks jumping an hour ahead this past weekend.

Warmer temperatures are expected this week, but so is the threat for winter weather.

The National Weather Service has a hazardous weather outlook posted. A strong storm system in anticipated to impact the region early Wednesday and into Thursday. A mix of snow, sleet and rain is expected during the day and will change entirely to snow by late Wednesday and into Wednesday night. Gusty winds and rapidly-falling temperatures are also expected with the snow on Wednesday night.

Several inches of snow may accumulate by early Thursday morning.

The next few days

Cloudy skies are expected today, with a high in the mid to upper 40s. The cloudy skies will continue to linger overhead tonight, with a low around 35 degrees.

Clouds will give way to partly sunny skies on Tuesday with a high in the lower 50s. Clouds will once again move into the area on Tuesday night with a low in the upper 30s.

Rain or freezing rain is expected before noon on Wednesday as the storm system moves into the Wyoming Valley. Rain is then expected between noon and 5 p.m., followed by rain or freezing rain after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The high will reach 41 degrees. The National Weather Service currently predicts a 90 percent chance of precipitation.

Snow and sleet is predicted during the early evening hours on Wednesday night before becoming all snow after 7 p.m. The low will drop to 16 degrees, and the National Weather Service currently predicts a 90 percent chance of precipitation. No snowfall accumulation amounts have been listed.

Snow showers are likely before 9 a.m. on Thursday, followed by partly sunny skies for the remainder of the day. The high will only climb to 23 degrees.
