The 35-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the collision between a car and a bus on the Cork-Limerick border on October 26.

She was transferred by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment of critical head injuries.

Tragically, she was pronounced dead today having succumbed to her injuries.

The woman is from west Cork.

Gsoc is now reviewing the collision which occurred at 3pm on October 26 on the R513 road just outside Ballylanders on the Limerick-Mitchelstown road.

The woman was a passenger in a car which was involved in a collision with a bus carrying a number of children.

It is understood the driver of the car was an off-duty Garda.

Gardaí confirmed that the matter has been referred to Gsoc under Section 102 of the Garda Síochana Act.

Gsoc confirmed they are reviewing the matter.

"Gsoc received a referral from An Garda Siochana relating to a road traffic collision at Ballylanders, Co Limerick on the afternoon of October 26.

"The referral was made by a Garda Superintendent under Section 102 (1) of the Garda Siochana Act 2005. The matter is now under examination by Gsoc. As such no further comment will be made at this time."

The collision involved a car and a bus which was carrying a number of children.

None of the children were seriously injured.

However, the woman - who was a passenger in the car - suffered critical head injuries and, after being treated at the scene, was transferred by air ambulance to CUH which is the head trauma referral centre for the south.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision to contact them and their investigation remains ongoing.
