Woman dead after semitrailer collision in eastern North Dakota
A Valley City woman died Monday morning after the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck on its side by a semitrailer in eastern North Dakota, authorities said.
The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. on State Highway 1 and Barnes County Road 22, 1 mile east of Sanborn, according to the Highway Patrol.
A 1995 Peterbilt driven by a 59-year-old man from Sanborn was towing a trailer filled with soybeans south on the highway when the semi struck a 2008 Dodge Avenger traveling west on Barnes County Road 22, on its passenger side. The Dodge was driven by a 15-year-old Valley City girl and the passenger was a 46-year-old Valley City woman.
The three occupants were taken to a hospital, where the woman died. The girl was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with life-threatening injuries, the Patrol said. The driver of the semi also suffered serious injuries. Names of those involved will be released later.
An investigation is ongoing.
