Years After Dominating NBA, Shaquille O’Neal Gets Dunked by Kid, Calls It “Sad Day”

R.Davis38 min ago
For two decades, Shaquille O'Neal has terrorized the NBA rims with his thunderous dunk. From breaking backboards against the New Jersey Nets in 1993 to famously pulling down the whole support system in Phoenix, Shaq has come to claim himself the 'Most Dominant Player'. But now, in a delightful twist of basketball fate, the hunter has become the hunted.

In what seemed like a playful Reebok event, the seven-footer man behind the Dunkman logo found himself being bested by a kid. Shaq took to his Instagram to share the humbling moment with a hilariously dramatic caption. "Todays a sad day I finally got dunked on whyyyyyyyyyyyy," wrote O'Neal as the caption of the post.

Given O'Neal's history of dominating players in the paint, this is obviously a role reversal for him.

During his prime, Shaq's dunks weren't just scores but they were statements. His most memorable slam came in 1999 when he dunked so forcefully over Chris Dudley that the former NY Knicks center stumbled backward and fell. The dunk became so iconic that it's still regularly featured in NBA highlight reels.

"You know why I did that? Because I found it disrespectful that they didn't double me. It's like if you look, I look back first, and I'm like, 'Oh really?" said O'Neal to current Los Angeles Laker coach JJ Reddick.

Moreover, the 4x champion revealed previously that he was only ever dunked on by three players — Derrick Coleman, Michael Jordan and Tim Perry. But they all came during Shaq's early years in Orlando Magic. So we know he grew to avoid them further. Until, a teenager would best him over a decade later in a massive bet.

When Shaquille O'Neal was dunked by another teenager Back in March, the seven-footer had shared a video on his Instagram where he was seen getting dunked by a 7-foot-11 Nigerian basketball sensation.

In the video Shaq had made a bold claim. "Yo this is Shaq. Anybody who can dunk on me, I'll give you a million dollars cash," said Shaq. Soon after, a seven-footer in a yellow tracksuit came from behind and dunked on him with ease. The seven-footer there was no one but Abiodun Adegoke. Unlike traditional big men who rely on jumps for their dunks, Adegoke's height allowed him to simply extend his arms and lay the ball through the hoop.

Adegoke (aka Big Naija) honed his skills at the Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy in Wasinmi, Nigeria, and later played in the MPAC Elite Youth League in Dubai. Although it remained a mystery that if Adegoke ever got his million dollars, he became one of the very few to add an irk to the icon who "always wanted to take pride in not getting dunked on."
