Guardians lose outfielder to injury, promote prospect

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians have placed outfielder Will Brennan on the 15-day injured list, and promoted prospect Jose Tena from Triple-A Columbus.

The Guardians also recalled right-handed pitcher Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus and optioned Xzavion Curry to Triple-A.

Brennan, who is battling rib cage inflammation, is batting .256 with 8 home runs and 24 RBIs for the Guardians this season.

Tena, who is rated Cleveland's No. 22 overall prospect by MLB.com, was batting .293 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs with 8 stolen bases in the minor leagues this season.

A native of Azua, Dominican Republic, Tena made his Major League debut with Cleveland last season on Aug. 5, 2023. He appeared in 18 games for the Guardians. In his first MLB stint, he posted a batting average of .226 with two doubles and 3 RBIs.

McCaughan appeared in one game with Cleveland this season. He tossed two innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits in Cleveland's 6-5 win over Toronto last Sunday.

The Guardians open a 4-game weekend series in Kansas City on Thursday night. The Guardians are currently 51-27, eight games ahead of second-place Minnesota.
