M.Kim1 hr ago

( KRON ) — A full closure of southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton will be in effect this weekend. The closures will allow Caltrans to perform repaving work.

What part of I-680 will close this weekend?

Southbound lanes between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and the Interstate 580 connector in Pleasanton will be closed this weekend.

When will I-680 close this weekend?

The closure will take effect at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 and last through 4 a.m. Monday morning, Sept. 23. All I-580/I-680 connectors will remain open through on southbound 680, according to Caltrans.

How will the closures impact drivers?

Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes to alleviate congestion within the construction work zone on southbound 680 through San Ramon and Dublin. Along with the closures on southbound 680, the far-left Express Lane and left shoulder will also be closed on northbound 680 between Amador Valley Boulevard in Dublin and Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon.

Why is I-680 closing this weekend?

The closure will allow crews to repave a portion of the southbound roadway with new pavement between Alcosta and the 580 connector. The repairs, according to Caltrans, will increase safety and reduce the number of nightly closures needed for the project.

This weekend's closure, according to Caltrans, will accomplish the amount of work that would otherwise require an estimated 40 nighttime closures. Following this weekend's closure, there will be two additional partial weekend closures in the same location.

When will I-680 close again?

Dates for the partial closures are as follows:

  • Oct. 4, 2024 to Oct. 7, 2024

  • Oct. 18, 2024 to Oct. 21, 2024

  • In the event of rain or other unanticipated circumstances, Caltrans said this weekend's closure will be rescheduled and the public will be notified. Signs will be placed prior to the closure and remain in effect through the weekend while work is being completed.

The northbound lanes of I-680 and I-580/I-680 interchange connector will remain open and won't be affected by the closure, Caltrans said.
