OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A woman is in the hospital after police say she may have been held hostage by a man in Omaha.

Omaha Police told 6 News that the incident started as a domestic violence call near South 43rd and Frances Street around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers believe the woman was being held against her will in a small room.

The man allegedly fired shots and police returned fire. OPD said officers were able to get the woman out of the home safely and take her to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect is also in the hospital with injuries authorities say could be critical.

At this point, investigators are unsure whether or not the suspect's injuries were self-inflicted or if he was hit by an officer's gunfire. OPD did not suggest any officers had been injured.
