2 Long Island Big Lots Locations Slated For Closure

Discount retail giant Big Lots has announced plans to close its Bay Shore and Hicksville locations.

BAY SHORE, NY— Discount retail chain Big Lots will be closing two more Long Island stores, according to the company's website .

The retail giant announced the closure of its Bay Shore and Hicksville locations last week

Meanwhile, Big Lots locations in Copiague, West Babylon and Holbrook will remain open.

While the final closing date has yet to be announced, the store is offering a store-wide 20 percent off sale at both locations.

The move comes about a month after the retailer declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy . Prior to that, the company announced it would close about 300 locations nationwide.

Until then, stores are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Big Lots said its stores and online shopping site will continue to operate as usual. The retailer expects to be able to continue to honor gift cards and store credit cards.

Founded in 1967, the company operated in its infancy as Consolidated International and operated closeout and discount stores under a variety of names. In 2001, the various store names and companies were converted to the single national Big Lots brand.

Before the closures, Big Lots had more than 1,400 stores nationwide.

Big Lots representatives were not immediately available for comment.
