The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for small streams in parts of Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wyoming counties along the Susquehanna River, as ice packs in the Tunkhannock area are posing a flooding threat.

Local law enforcement agents reported an ice jam along the river in the Tunkhannock area on Monday afternoon. Sharp water rises and flooding associated with this ice jam are very unpredictable, the National Weather Service has warned.

The NWS early this evening issued an areal flood warning for small streams in northeastern Luzerne County, central Wyoming County and extreme west central Lackawanna County through 7:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Areas of concern are near Route 92 and toward West Falls, Falls, upper Exeter, Ransom and Harding. Flooding is possible in the low lying areas along the river in the townships of Tunkhannock, Eaton, Falls and Exeter.

In Wyoming County, water may also back up into Tunkhannock Creek, which may cause flooding near Tunkhannock.

Anyone who lives in or near these areas should be prepared to seek higher ground if the water is rising, as water rises with ice jams are often fast and unpredictable, the NWS said.
