100 years ago: Tazewell County to use plane in fugitive search

How Time Flies is a daily feature looking back at Pantagraph archives to revisit what was happening in our community and region.

Nov. 15, 1924: Tazewell County Sheriff Neuhaus will ask the board of supervisors to give him the authority to deputies Charles Parkhurst, Pekin aviator, in order that the airplane may be used in emergency cases to overtake fugitives. The sheriff believes that the plane will be of great assistance in locating law violators who escape in autos or run into fields and wooded areas.

Nov. 15, 1949: Bloomington police officers and firefighters won't get any pay raise this year. Mayor Cecil Cone said the salaries would be increased when funding becomes available, acknowledging, "There are needed adjustments in both the police and fire departments, but there just isn't any money."

Nov. 15, 1974: Many area residents were unprepared to drive after the five inches of snow fell Nov. 13, finding themselves waiting in lines to purchase snow tires or have them mounted. Business was so heavy that some customers will find themselves waiting until the middle of next week. Part of the backup may be attributed to the fact that state law does not allow studded tires to be used before today.

Nov. 15, 1999: You don't have to have an office in Beverly Hills to doctor the stars. A few hours before Live took the stage at Braden Auditorium, Bloomington-Normal chiropractor Dr. Steve Troyanovich helped the band warm up, providing treatment for drummer Chad Gracey and three of the road crew. In the past few years, Troyanovich has also treated members of Bad Company and the bass player for Bryan Adams' band.
