A chicken sandwich from Minneapolis was just named the best in the country
In an award that will spark no dissenting opinions, Minneapolis ' Hen House Eatery has been crowned home of the best chicken sandwich in the country.
The Chicken Sandwich Challenge was run by bread company Artesano, which pitted sandwiches from eight restaurants against each other in a public vote. Hen House's The GOAT came out on top.
While "best" is a complicated label in the best of circumstances, let alone in a public vote, the sandwich earned its laurels. Its grilled chicken is coated in cajun seasoning and BBQ sauce before getting layered with bacon, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, red onions, tomato, and mayo.
The months-long competition was narrowed to a pair of finalists last month. Hen House faced a sandwich from The Hayden in San Antonio before coming out on top and earning not only an appealing title, but a tidy $20,000 prize as well.
It's no slander on a nice sandwich to say that Artesano's use of "best" is probably a bit strong for a competition that had limited entrants and was put to a public vote where the majority of people hadn't tried both sandwiches.
Nonetheless, diners can decide for themselves by giving The GOAT a try at Hen House Eatery in Downtown Minneapolis. However, the restaurant has also shared the recipe for the sandwich so it can be recreated by fans and anyone unwilling to take a flight to try a chicken sandwich out of curiosity.
