HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Sheriff's Office (ASO) deputies retrieved a submerged SUV from the Santa Fe River after a resident discovered it while canoeing near the U.S. 27 boat ramp in High Springs.

The resident, who found the vehicle, reported that there was no one inside the SUV.

Investigators later confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Columbia County, indicating it had likely been in the water for several weeks.

Authorities from both the Alachua and Columbia County Sheriff's Offices (CCSO) are currently working to determine how the SUV ended up in the river.
