Big Ten Power Rankings: Top 10 shakeups after first week of conference play

We saw a missed game-tying field goal, a controversial offsides call on an onside kick attempt and a double-digit second half comeback.

It was an eventful full opening week of Big Ten play, and it helped us sort through this monster conference.

Here are our rankings after Week 5:

The Boilermakers fired their offensive coordinator after recording just 38 points in three games against FBS competition his season. That included no touchdowns until the final two minutes of a home loss to Nebraska.

The Bruins couldn't manage an offensive touchdown as they fell to 1-3 on the year with a three-touchdown home loss to Oregon – its second three-touchdown home loss this season.

After an off week, the Wildcats will look for their first power conference win when they host a ranked Indiana team next week.

It's not often a team wins the turnover battle 4-0 and still loses by two touchdowns, but that's what the Terrapins managed to do on Saturday in a loss at Indiana that brought them to 0-2 in Big Ten play.

The Gophers came painfully close to a huge comeback win at Michigan and now have two losses by a combined five points this season (plus a lopsided loss to Iowa).

The Badgers held an 11-point halftime lead but gave up four second-half touchdowns in a listless finish. Wisconsin had 82 yards in the second half and have yet to beat a ranked team under Luke Fickell.

The Huskies outgained Rutgers 521-299 but lost thanks to three missed field goals and a 2-for-12 performance on third down.

The Spartans' visit from Ohio State went about as expected in a 31-point loss. Now, it will need to respond on a short-turnaround trip to Oregon in the middle of the toughest portion of its schedule.

The Cornhuskers messed around for a while at Purdue, carrying a 3-0 deficit until late in the third quarter, before scoring four touchdowns in 12 minutes to win handily.

The Hawkeyes were off last week – a rest they'll need as they get ready for Ohio State this week.

The Scarlet Knights are living right, winning back-to-back weeks on a made game-winning field goal and a missed opponent game-winning field goal.

The Illini came out with an impressive opening touchdown drive at Penn State, but its undefeated start unraveled as it had just 148 yards of offense and no touchdowns after that drive.

Indiana turned the ball over four times but still won by two touchdowns and is 5-0 for the first time in a half-century, although its schedule has not been the toughest.

The Trojans are going to have to figure out how to be better in the first halves of games, but this week it was able to finish off its double-digit second-half comeback against Wisconsin.

Their wins may not be pretty, but Michigan now has four of them against one loss to one of the country's top teams. Now, they'll see if they can get it done on the road on a trip to Washington.

The Nittany Lions got it done with their defense in a 21-7 home win over a ranked Illinois team to stay unbeaten.

The Ducks seem to have put their shaky two-week start behind them after back-to-back three-touchdown road wins, most recently against UCLA.
