Burlington voters to decide on Burlington Electric bond
T.Williams42 min ago
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington voters will weigh in on a bond that would support net zero energy goals for the Burlington Electric Department on Tuesday. The measure would allow Burlington electric to bond for $20 million to create more grid reliability. Back in 2021 Burlington voters approved another similar measure. B.E.D. says this bond will help keep rate pressures low while allowing them to complete capital projects that will help achieve net zero energy goals in the city. "This will fund a number of important capital projects for Burlington Electric through almost the end of the decade, and support additional reliability efforts, support expanded electrification capacity on the grid so we can have more EVs, more heat pumps, geothermal systems, electric transit, busses, you name it," said Darren Springer from the Burlington Electric Department. Burlington Electric's bond will not impact the city of Burlington's borrowing capacity or property taxes. The polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. tomorrow.
