Cambria sheriff warns of scam calls affecting region

EBENSBURG, Pa. – Cambria County Sheriff Don Robertson issued a warning this week about scam phone calls affecting the area.

He said his office has received reports of residents receiving calls from people claiming to be Cambria sheriff's deputies.

"They seem to be targeting the older folks," Robertson said.

The scammers are telling people they missed jury duty and a warrant will be issued for their arrest unless they pay a fine.

Robertson noted the messages are asking the targeted individuals to meet at a determined location to deliver the money.

The sheriff said that this is not in any way how the procedure works for missing jury duty, and a deputy would not call and request money in exchange for not issuing a warrant.

If anyone receives one of these calls, Robertson said they should call their local law enforcement agency or the sheriff's office at 814-472-1691 to report the scam.
