Coroner IDs bicyclist fatally struck by driver who now faces DUI charge in Madison County

Funeral services have been set for a bicyclist who died after being struck by a vehicle in Madison County.

Gary Lee Sies Jr., 52, of Greenville died on Oct. 8 in Community Hospital of Staunton, according to Macoupin County Coroner Anthony Kravanya.

He was struck while riding a bicycle on West Frontage Road at Oak Street in Livingston in Madison County, Illinois State Police said in a news release. Sies was taken to the hospital after he was struck by the vehicle.

Sies and the vehicle were both going south on West Frontage Road when the collision occurred, according to preliminary information gathered by state troopers.

The motorist was charged with driving under the influence, Illinois State Police said. This person's name has not been released because the case remains an open investigation, according to state police.

The funeral for Sies is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Greenville First Baptist Church, according to a notice from the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
