JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Work has begun to install a crosswalk on West Walnut Street at University Parkway in Johnson City.
The City of Johnson City announced on Thursday that contractors' work on the project will impact traffic in the area.

Drivers will not be able to access West Walnut from University for about three weeks, the city anticipates.
The recently restructured area of University will also be repaved later in November. The final asphalt surface between West State of Franklin Road and Southwest Avenue will start to be installed on Nov. 18.
Repaving will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day depending on weather. According to the city, paving can only take place when temperatures reach 55 degrees or warmer.
During repaving activity, traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction.
The repaving process is expected to last up to two weeks. During that time, emergency vehicles will be able to pass, but congestion is likely due to construction activities. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to find alternate routes when possible.
