Sunshine returns with showers returning late weekend
Tonight features mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers, mainly before midnight. Patchy dense fog is possible as we head into the morning hours with a very light variable breeze. Temperatures will remain mild for this time of year overnight, as we only drop down into the low 50s.
Friday features gradual clearing after our morning fog dissipates with high pressure back in control. We'll be a little cooler but still about ten degrees above average with highs in the mid 60s. High school football games look very solid overall but chilly with patchy frost possible toward dawn Saturday. Temperatures during area games will be in the upper 50s at kickoff, cooling into the mid 40s by the end of the fourth quarter. This is the last week of the regular season for our local teams, so come out and support your favorite high school football team! I'll be live over at Hunnicutt Stadium in Princeton, as Parkersburg South comes to town to challenge the Princeton Tigers. We'll have highlights from nearly a dozen games during the 11 PM newscast in the Sports Zone.
Saturday sees partly sunny skies with our next system beginning to approach late. It's a warm afternoon once again after a chilly morning in the 30s with a southerly breeze kicking in, as we'll see high temperatures climb back up into the mid 60s. Clouds will be on the increase late Saturday but we'll remain dry before midnight – the second half of the weekend will be wet.
Sunday provides our next chance for rain, as another front scoots into the region. This will bring back showers, which will once again be on the scattered side. High temperatures will suffer with the abundant clouds and showers around with highs stuck to around 60 degrees. A quarter to a half inch of rain won't be enough to really help with drought conditions, but it will help with the brush fire activity.
Veterans Day will have a few showers in the morning, as a cold front will cross during the early morning hours. Periods of drizzle in the morning will lead to afternoon clearing, with highs returning to the mid 60s.
