LANSING, Mich. (WILX)—As of Monday morning, dozens of crime survivors are going to Washington DC

That is because they are attending the first-ever 'Crime Survivors Speak March.' Victims and families boarded a bus in Lansing overnight that left around midnight on Monday and headed to the nation's capital.

There, survivors from around the country will gather this march, addressing the crimes that happened to them, which include gun violence and sexual assault. They will be rallying together to urge lawmakers to expand support for them.

The founder of Voices of Color, Tanesha Ash-Shakoor, said supporting survivors of crime is the number one priority.

"I am a survivor. I do this work to help survivors all the time," said Ash-Shakoor. "Everybody is coming together for one common purpose, and that's to focus on the survivors and their needs."

Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice hosted this send-off, a national network of over 200,000 victims.
