CT man arrested following a foot pursuit as police recover stolen car in Waterbury
A man was arrested in connection with a stolen car following a foot pursuit in Waterbury on Wednesday.
Jose Diaz, 25, of Waterbury was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with a police officer, misuse of marker plates and operating a motor vehicle under suspension, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department .
Bessette said Diaz was arrested by members of the department's Auto Theft Task Force after officers spotted a stolen 2021 Audi A5 on Platt Street shortly after 11 p.m. The vehicle had been stolen from Sherman.
According to Bessette, Diaz was allegedly spotted getting out of the car and trying to flee into a nearby apartment when officers approached him. He was apprehended following a brief foot pursuit.
Bessette said Diaz has a prior history of arrests tied to stolen vehicles. He was held on a $50,000 bond.
