“Destination Healthy Skin” offering free skin cancer screenings in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Skin Cancer Foundation 's "Destination Healthy Skin" program has made a stop in Morgantown to provide free skin cancer screenings to the public.

In an email to 12 News volunteer for the Skin Cancer Foundation Brittanny Groover, who is a survivor of skin cancer herself, urged people to take advantage of the opportunity.

"So far, we have screened 17 individuals and detected 4 possible cases of melanoma, 2 possible cases of squamous cell carcinoma, and 2 possible cases of basal cell carcinoma," Groover wrote. "Our goal is to screen at least 80 more people by the end of tomorrow. These screenings are entirely free, and no ID or insurance is required."

Dermatologist Dr. Mary Hall of Mon Health is conducting the screenings. Free sunscreen and educational materials on skin cancer prevention are also being handed out.

Screening hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday, Sept. 22. Destination Healthy Skin can be located during those hours at 1000 Mon Health Medical Park Drive in Morgantown across from the Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.
