SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Duchesne County man has been sentenced to prison time for the role he played in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Meacham was convicted in the District of Columbia on seven felony charges including civil disorder; two counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers with a dangerous weapon; assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers; engaging in physical violence on restricted grounds with a dangerous weapon; disorderly conduct on restricted grounds with a dangerous weapon; and entering and remaining on restricted grounds with a dangerous weapon.

The FBI arrested Meacham in May 2023 and charged him with several crimes related to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. He drove from his home in Myton, Utah, to Washington, D.C., to attend events related to the 2020 Presidential Election, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Just after 2 p.m., Meacham went with others to the West Plaza of the Capitol and fought with police, striking one officer with a wooden flagpole and throwing a metal pole at another officer. After these two incidents, he stayed on the grounds and taunted and cursed at several law enforcement officials, calling them "dogs" and "traitors."

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, more than 1,500 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 U.S. states, including Utah. The investigation remains ongoing into the Jan. 6 Capitol Riots and finding those responsible.
