Eagles’ inactives: C.J. Gardner-Johnson will play, veteran LB once again a healthy scratch

NEW ORLEANS — Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson will play when the Eagles go against the New Orleans Saints Sunday after suffering a foot injury during the practice week. He did not practice Thursday or Friday, but participated in pregame warmups and looked fine.

The Eagles had practiced some late in the week with veteran Avonte Maddox at safety and rookie Cooper DeJean as the slot cornerback, but now they will obviously not have to go with that configuration. It will still be interesting to see if DeJean sees more playing time after only being on the field for one defensive snap during the Eagles' loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Of course, the Eagles already knew before they left for New Orleans that they'd be without top receiver A.J. Brown , who will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury.

The Eagles' healthy scratches against the Saints are linebacker Devin White, cornerback Eli Ricks, offensive linemen Darian Kinnard and Trevor Keegan and defensive tackle Byron Young. Tanner McKee was given the third quarterback designation.

White was a healthy scratch for the second straight week and has yet to play in a game with the Eagles after signing a one-year deal worth $4 million in the offseason. White missed the season opener in Brazil against the Packers because of an ankle injury.
