In the 79th part of the series, we will Level 8 in Los Angeles
Level 8 is like no other, as it plays host to eight different restaurants and bars, including Golden Hour, Mr. Wanderlust, Maison Kasai, Lucky Mizu, Que Barbaro, The Brown Sheep, Mothers of Pearl and Sinner and Santos.
Each venue has its own theme and cuisine, making it a unique atmosphere from restaurant to restaurant.
Golden Hour is among the most unique because it is on the rooftop along a pool.
Mr. Wanderlust is a lively piano bar, jazz club, and late-night spot with a theatrical twist.
It honors the nomadic life of its namesake, a fictional explorer whose collection of books, artifacts, and cocktail recipes shows his wide range of tastes. Melina Meza, a famous cocktail master, made the tasty drinks on the menu.
You can look through the unique souvenirs and photos that Mr. Wanderlust has brought back from his travels while live music, DJs, and surprise acts keep you entertained late at night.
Maison Kasai is not your average teppanyaki joint; it's a participatory dining experience created by Michelin-starred chef Joshua Gil.
Gil uses Japanese and French techniques on carefully sourced ingredients, creating a fusion of culinary art and performance.
Indulge in various sushi and sashimi while learning about the Japanese techniques of steaming and boiling food. Lucky Mizu has the atmosphere of a music box, and the meal is prepared using only the freshest ingredients and the best meats from around the world.
The restaurant is transformed into a massive, engrossing musical instrument as you savor traditional Japanese cuisine beneath a 40-foot Earth Harp that fills the air with song.
Enjoy a variety of "zensai" snacks and raw dishes to start your Lucky Mizu meal. Then, dive into some sushi and choose from a seiro mushi or shabu shabu set entrée, with options including fresh farmers market veggies, seasonal shellfish, Kurobuta pig, or Japanese A5 wagyu.
The airy room is adorned with cherry flowers, lucky charms, and butterfly infinity mirrors.
Discover the diversity of South American cuisine at Que Barbaro by participating in the live-fire cooking demonstration. Renowned LA chef Ray Garcia cooks meats, fish, and creative vegetarian dishes over an open BBQ to add nuanced, powerful flavors.
On the terrace, guests can find The Brown Sheep, which serves "authentically inauthentic" street food by Chef Ray Garcia.
Each classic dish has a modern twist straight from a food truck.
The beautiful outdoor oyster and champagne bar Mother of Pearl features a carefully selected menu prepared by Michelin-starred and Mírate Chef Joshua Gil, accompanied by an alluring selection of Champagnes, cocktails, and wines.
Mother of Pearl , perched on Level 8's verdant outside terrace, offers diners and drinks for an amazing experience with exquisite flavors and picture-perfect sunsets.
Sinners y Santos is a cathedral-style nightclub with live DJs and immersive shows that honors El Santo, the famous Mexican wrestler and folk hero whose career peaked in the 1950s and 1960s.
The space is meant to look like an empty church from the 1800s that has been turned into a secret wrestling theater. People who want to join must go through a confessional and say they are sorry for their sins.
Inside, they find a room with walls covered in Venetian plaster and bits of the original brick showing through.
There are also wrought iron chandeliers, sconces, and worn-out wood millwork. The huge Gothic millwork and stained-glass bar are ringed by dripping prayer candles and saints wearing Lucha Libre masks as a joke.
The high ceiling is emphasized by an ornate tin roof, and a DJ booth that looks like a pipe organ gives off light and smoke. There are comfortable banquettes around the edges of the club's two rooms, tucked under arched and barrel-vaulted ceilings.
Surprise acts occur throughout the night, including a choreographed show by masked acrobats on a wrestling ring that falls from the ceiling above the room's main bar.
All these unique restaurants accept walk-ins, but reservations are highly recommended.
