Fall Clean-Up week offers free events
JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town of Jackson and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling (ISWR) invite the community to participate in this year's Fall Clean Up events, scheduled for the last week in October and early November.
Each spring and fall, the agencies team up with local waste management companies to offer a one-day free residential yard waste collection event at the Rodeo Grounds for town residents, a week of free residential yard-waste collection at the Trash Transfer Station for all county residents, plus free compostable bags and pumpkin disposal.
"This event is a great benefit to the community. Residents get a free and convenient way to dispose of their yard clean up waste before winter, and we keep valuable materials from being transported to the landfill in Idaho," ISWR Public Engagement Specialist Cindy Harger said. "This way, all of our aspen leaves, tree branches and grass clippings can contribute to local composting efforts, which support gardens and the environment."
Free compostable bags are available beginning Friday, Oct. 18, until supplies last. Bags can be picked up at the Jackson Town Hall (150 East Pearl Street), Town of Jackson Public Works Office (across from the Rodeo Grounds, 450 W. Snow King Ave.) and at the Recycling Center (3270 S. Adams Canyon Dr.). Compostable bags are not required to participate in yard-waste collection events.
Residential Yard Waste CollectionOne-day of free yard-waste collection at the Rodeo Grounds takes place on Friday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This drop-off event does not provide curbside pickup.
For those outside of town limits or who can't make it to the Rodeo Grounds during those drop times, up to 500 pounds of residential yard waste can be taken free to the Trash Transfer Station during regular operating hours from Monday, Oct. 28 through Saturday, Nov. 2. Trash Transfer Station hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The first 500 pounds of residential yard-waste per household is free at the Trash Transfer Station. Grass, leaves, branches and pumpkins can be brought loose or in bags, which should then be emptied and sorted into appropriate piles. Trash or dog waste will not be accepted.
Fall Burn WeekFall Burn Week is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Nov. 3.
Residents can compost their clean Jack-o'-lanterns.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the businesses and teams that generously donate their time and services to make this event possible, including New Waste Removal, Westbank Sanitation, Teton Trash Removal, Terra Firma Organics and the dedicated Town and County public works and ISWR crews," Harger said. "Their support is what makes this event such a success."
