Shay Rossiter (72) suffered fatal injuries in a two-vehicle collision between a van and a truck on the R772 outside Enniscorthy on September 29, 2022. Mr Rossiter, a married man from Clough, Gorey, Co Wexford was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin but died there from his injuries on October 8, 2022.

Inspector Deirdre Connolly told a sitting of Dublin District Coroner's Court this week that she expected a Garda file on the case would be sent to the DPP next Monday.

Insp Connolly applied for a six-month adjournment of the inquest under Section 25 (1) of the Coroners Act on the basis that criminal proceedings are under consideration in relation to Ms Rossiter's death.

A previous sitting of the inquest last year heard a postmortem on the deceased's body revealed he had died as a result of severe brain injuries sustained in a road traffic collision.

Mr Rossiter had been placed in an induced coma following the crash due to the severity of his injuries and his family subsequently agreed to switch off a life support machine after being advised by medical staff that he had no chance of recovery.

The coroner, Aisling Gannon, granted the application and adjourned the case for further mention to May 14, 2025.
