A person jumped from the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky on Thursday but was saved by firefighters performing training exercises, officials said.

Cincinnati Fire Department river response personnel were dispatched just before 9 a.m. for a report of someone jumping from the bridge into the Ohio River, the department said in a news release.

First responders were operating a boat on the water for a drill and rescued the victim, whose name and age haven't been released. They were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

The Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency said a training exercise meant to demonstrate the "region's ability to respond to a significant spill on the Ohio River" was planned for Thursday morning.

The exercise included industry personnel, first responders and private sector oil response organizations, the agency said.
