FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A 53-year-old Fort Wayne man was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to aggravated battery in a shooting that critically injured his relative back in August .

Probable cause documents filed in the case say Anthony Kidd, 53, shot his brother-in-law following an argument at a home on Peartree Lane on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Witnesses at the home said they were gathered that evening to celebrate the victim's nephew's military service. Police later spoke with the victim, who said they got into an argument after Kidd called his nephew a vulgar name, according to court documents .

The victim said as they were arguing, Kidd allegedly said, "I'll f***ing shoot you" before pointing a gun at him, court documents say. Kidd then attempted to shoot but the gun misfired. He then fired again, hitting the victim as he was trying to run away.

Kidd then fled the scene and was arrested during a traffic stop later that evening.

"I can't believe he shot me. I've known this man my entire life," the victim later told police, according to court documents. "I'm married to his sister."

In court on Friday, Kidd was sentenced to nine years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to aggravated battery.

As part of his plea deal, his other charge of criminal recklessness was dismissed.
