ROCHESTER – While the store's founders are retiring and clearing out inventory, Rochester's Furniture Superstore will remain open under new ownership.

Furniture Superstore at 5150 U.S. 52 North is launching a retirement sale on Saturday to clear out the stock in the 100,000-square-foot complex, self-described as the area's largest furniture and mattress store.

Jim Sather Mark Byer are selling the Rochester store to Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Furniture Mart USA .

Furniture Mart has more than 50 stores in six Midwest states under the Furniture Mart, Unclaimed Freight Furniture, Ashley and Carpet One brand names.

Furniture Superstore Manager Rod Moen said the new owners are retaining the store's current staff of 20 employees.

Moen explained the retirement sale, which could run for a few weeks, will clear the store of its inventory to make way for the Furniture Mart product line. He said the selection of furniture brands will be very similar to Furniture Superstore offerings.

Furniture Superstore's history in Rochester started in 2003, when Sather opened the Furniture Superstore Factory Outlet at 3185 41st St. NW. In 2005, he partnered with Byer to open America's Mattress at 4408 U.S. 52.

When Menards built a new, larger north Rochester store in 2014, the duo took over the former Menards complex and combined the Furniture Superstore and America's Best Mattress under the roof of the 53-year-old retail complex.

"Our only limitations have been location and size. We outperform our competition in every other way. This move will take care of those limitations," said Sather in January 2014. "I fully intend that we will not only be the biggest furniture store in size in the new location, but we will also be the biggest in volume of sales."
