Frances Geraldine 'Gerry' Cierpilowski
Lock Haven, Pa. — Frances Geraldine Cierpilowski, 81, of Lock Haven passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024 at UPMC Williamsport surrounded by her family.
Born on Nov. 25, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, Gerry was the only child of the late John and Helen (Nedza) Szymanski. Her journey began in Detroit, where she graduated from high school and pursued her passion for education at Marygrove College. She continued her education earning a Master's Degree from Bloomsburg University.
In 1964, she married the love of her life, Gerald Cierpilowski. They spent 58 loving, joyful years together until his passing in 2022.
Gerry's teaching career began in Detroit, but she devoted her early years to nurturing her family. The 1980s saw her return to the classroom as a reading specialist, teaching at various schools, including Lock Haven Catholic School.
Gerry was a devoted member of Holy Spirit Parish and attended St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was also actively involved with the Lock Haven branch of AAUW, which recognized her as their Outstanding Woman in 2015.
Gerry was not only an avid reader but also a gifted writer. In 2004, she penned and published her book Karolina Remembers, which tells the story of her Aunt Caroline's harrowing journey from Poland to the United States during World War II.
Gerry found peace in nature, particularly by the water. In her 60s she discovered kayaking and cherished family vacations spent swimming or simply sitting by the lake, soaking in the beauty around her while enjoying time with her family.
Most of all, she was a genuinely loving wife, mother, and friend who generously displayed acceptance, kindness, and gentleness.
She leaves behind her sons, Kevin and John Cierpilowski, both of Lock Haven; a daughter, Emily and son-in-law, Steve Bukowski of Bradford; and her beloved grandchildren, Mary and Joseph Bukowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. Private inurnment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
