Free Citizenship Classes For Green Card Holders In New Jersey The classes will help immigrants with Green Cards to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam.

NEW JERSEY — A nonprofit advocacy group is hosting a series of free classes that help immigrants with Green Cards to prepare for their U.S. citizenship exam.

According to Make the Road New Jersey, the classes will help Green Card holders to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam, which includes 100 questions about civics, history and U.S. government.

Classes will last 10 weeks and start in October. There will be in-person and virtual options available. The classes are only for people with permanent legal residence (Green Card) who want to follow the naturalization process.

Make the Road New Jersey will also provide free legal assistance to file citizenship applications.

Interested participants can register using this . Participants can enroll in a rolling basis, and will be contacted even if classes have already started.

The group is offering hybrid classes in Elizabeth and in-person classes in Passaic:

The Elizabeth course started on October 17 (twice a week). These classes will be hybrid: in person on Mondays at the group's community center (42 Broad Street, Elizabeth) and every Thursday via Zoom from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Passaic course started on October 15 (twice a week). These classes will be in person every Tuesday at 184 Passaic Street in Passaic, and virtual every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
