Friday Forecast: Frigid with snow possible

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Well below average temperatures are in the forecast for Friday. It looks to remain cold this weekend with a gradual warming trend for the first half of next week. There is a chance of snow Friday and Saturday.

Friday will be cloudy, cold and a bit breezy. Morning low temperatures should be in the mid-teens to low 20s with afternoon high temperatures in the upper teens to low 30s. Winds look to be northeast at 8 to 18 mph so it will feel about ten degrees colder with wind chills for much of the area in the teens and 20s. The best chance for light to moderate to snow will be in the western half of Nebraska and Northwestern Kansas. Light to moderate snowfall accumulation is possible. In the eastern half of Nebraska and Northern Kansas, there is a small chance of flurries or a few light snow showers.

Saturday will be cloudy and cold, but not as breezy with winds speeds at 5 to 10 mph. High temperatures look to be in the mid 20s to mid 30s. The chance of snow will move into the eastern half of the area Friday night into Saturday morning with snowfall accumulation of a trace to an inch possible. Another round of snow should move into the area Saturday afternoon and night. The best chance for snow with this round will be in Southern and Eastern Nebraska as well as Northern Kansas. Light snowfall accumulation is possible.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of Western Nebraska and the panhandle Friday into Saturday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for part of Southwestern and Central Nebraska as well as the panhandle Friday into Saturday morning. South central Nebraska has been added into the Winter Weather Advisory and the advisory will begin this afternoon through midnight Saturday night.

Snowfall amounts, at this time, look to range from a trace to an inch in much of Eastern Nebraska to 4 to 8′′ in the panhandle and part of Western Nebraska. Stay up to date on the latest forecast if you have travel plans the next few days.

Any snow should taper off in Eastern Nebraska early Sunday morning. The bulk of the day looks to be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, chilly and breezy. The first half of next week will be mostly sunny with temperatures gradually warming up back to average for late November.
