Sports 'Game of Thrones' Is Trending Because of Cowboys-Steelers

"Sunday Night Football" brought us a Week 6 battle between long-time rivals the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers entered the game with a 3-1 record, good for first place in the AFC North. Dallas, meanwhile, sits in the middle of the NFC East standings, behind the Washington Commanders.

As the game was getting underway, Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. made his rounds on social media for how he introduced himself on NBC.

"Joey Porter Jr. King in the North," the 24-year-old said.

Obviously these comments were a nod to Pittsburgh holding the top spot in the AFC North, but it was also a reference to the popular Max show, "Game of Thrones."

"Game of Thrones" is widely regarded as the best television show to ever exist. It is a fantasy genre that takes place in a land called Westeros. The show follows many families (or houses) throughout the entire plot, one of them being House Stark.

The Starks hold a castle in the northern part of Westeros called Winterfell. With multiple deaths occurring throughout the story, the leader of Winterfell changes. That title started with Ned Stark and ended with his bastard son, Jon Snow. And whoever holds Winterfell holds the North. King in the North.

Fans loved Porter Jr.'s reference to the show and took to social media to leave their thoughts.

"Joey Stark," one fan said.

"Did Joey Porter Jr really just call himself King in the North?"

"Did anybody notice Joey Porter Jr say "The King in the North" for his player intro?? That was awesome"

"Joey Porter Jr is no Jon Snow"

"Joey porter jr u are not Robb Starks"

""Joey Porter Junior, king of the north" I love that man"

"Game of Thrones" is based on the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R.R. Martin. The show won 272 total awards and was nominated for 757. It even has its own prequel show called "House of the Dragon," which follows House Targaryen. Multiple other spinoffs are coming in the future as well.
