Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson wins reelection, will serve another 4 years

GENESEE COUNTY, MI – Earning nearly 65 percent of the vote in the Nov. 5 general election, Chris Swanson will return to his position as sheriff of Genesee County for the next four years.

Swanson was challenged in the Nov. 5 general election by political newcomer Jeff Salzeider, who was registered as a Republican from Montrose.

Swanson earned 139,685 votes, while Salzeider earned 75,922 votes, according to unofficial results from the Genesee County Clerk. There were 462 write-in votes for other candidates, according to the clerk.

In the midterm elections, Swanson earned more than 42,000 votes while Salzeider tallied 17,184 votes, according to unofficial results from the Genesee County Clerk.

Swanson, the popular Genesee County sheriff who recently spoke at the Democratic National Convention , first took office in 2019 when former Sheriff Robert Pickell retired.

The IGNITE founder won the general election in 2020. Swanson has served the Genesee County Sheriff's Office for 31 years.

Swanson vows to be a community partner, protect vulnerable people in the community and lead by example in earning the public's trust each day, he said.
