Mercado-Fortine, a former teacher, principal, superintendent, and past governing board member, and past Santa Clarita Woman of The Year, is excited to announce her candidacy for the William S. Hart Union High School District Board of Trustees in Area 1.

As a proud Hart High School graduate and longtime advocate for education, Mercado-Fortine aims to refocus the district on student success, parental involvement, fiscal accountability, and school safety, according to her campaign.

Throughout her career, Mercado-Fortine has been committed to improving educational outcomes, leading two successful bond measures, and overseeing the construction of six new schools within the Hart District. She has been a steadfast advocate for teachers, parents, and students, working to ensure transparency and collaboration in district decisions.

"I want to ensure our schools remain top-tier institutions that prioritize students' well-being and learning, while giving parents a stronger voice," Mercado-Fortine said.

Her platform includes restoring fiscal health to the district and focusing on local issues rather than national politics, according to officials.

Mercado-Fortine is endorsed by the Hart District Teachers Association, and she remains actively involved in the Santa Clarita community, serving on boards for several organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, and the Sheriffs Foundation.
