GOSHEN — Goshen Community Schools remained open Wednesday despite a recent online threat made to the schools.

The schools remained open with increased security measures and police presence. The Goshen Police Department on Wednesday morning notified school officials of a threat targeting Goshen High School, the district said.

"We understand that parents know what's best for their children, and their comfort and peace of mind are of utmost importance," Goshen Community Schools Superintendent Jim DuBois said in a Facebook post. "If you think keeping your child at home today is best for him until we gather more information about the threat, we understand and support his decision. Absences related to this situation will be justified and you can communicate your decision to your child's school office."

All after-school athletic practices, games and contests were canceled for the day.

No details related to the nature of the threat were released.

Goshen Community Schools is not the only school district in the Michiana area to receive threats in recent days.

On Monday morning, the South Bend Community School Corp. responded to threats by sending officers to some schools.

Other school districts in Michiana area that have faced threats include New Prairie United School Corp., Three Rivers Community Schools and Whitko Community Schools.
