Gov. Ron DeSantis declares state of emergency in 41 counties due to forecasted hurricane

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order on Monday declaring a state of emergency in 41 counties ahead of a potential tropical cyclone.

The counties in our area that will likely be impacted are Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Suwannee and Union.

According to the press release, officials said there is a significant threat of storm surge, coastal flooding, heavy rainfall and flash flooding. These conditions could shut down the operations of major interstates, roadways, bridges, airports, schools, hospitals, power grids and other critical infrastructure.

The conditions are predicted to cause major disasters in the area. The executive order has taken immediate effect.
