Governor DeSantis talks about hurricane recovery and hands out food in Suwannee

SUWANNEE, Fla. (WCJB) - Governor Ron DeSantis joined thousands of volunteers who are giving out food in Dixie County.

Workers at the "Operation Barbeque" food truck handed out food to people in the town of Suwannee this afternoon.

Governor DeSantis helped them out before talking about the state's hurricane recovery efforts.

He praised the communities coming together and pointed out FEMA and point of distribution centers across the state.

He also mentioned one effort that helped residents in another coastal community that could come to North Central Florida.

"Operation Rubicon is down in Pasco County now and in other parts of that coast, they or others like them could come to Dixie if there's a demand for that, what they do is they go in and help with the repairs they help muck and gut your home so that the repairs can take place," said Governor Ron DeSantis.

He said he and his team are on standby in case another storm develops this week.
