The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from Monday to Wednesday for Napa County – along with much of the Bay Area and Central Coast – with temperatures expected to reach triple digits in the Northern California interior this week.

An advisory is in force from 11 a.m. Monday to 11 p.m. Wednesday for both valley and mountain areas of the North Bay, including Napa and Sonoma counties. Afternoon highs may rise to as much as 105 degrees in some areas, according to the weather service.

At Napa County Airport, highs are forecast to reach 93 on Monday before climbing to 99 Tuesday and 98 Wednesday.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of liquids, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets must not be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

The weather service also recommends extra precautions when working or spending time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing.

Residents also should know the symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Anyone overcome by heat illness should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke must be treated as an emergency and witnesses should call 911.

Meanwhile, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. announced a possible public safety power shutoff starting Monday evening in parts of 13 counties, including Napa County's northwest corner north of Calistoga. The utility company pointed to hot and dry weather raising the risk of wildfires as the reason for the preemptive power cuts.

The Napa County PSPS would likely begin sometime between 6 and 8 p.m. Monday, with service returning around 11 a.m. Tuesday, PG&E said in an online update.

In the event of a PSPS, PG&E will open a community resource center inside the Calistoga Community Center at 1307 Washington St., according to the utility's outage map. The climate-controlled center would be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday and offer charging for electronic and small medical devices, and also provide water, snacks, ice, restrooms and Wi-Fi.
